But I keep on convincing myself that its the lover not the love (oh, that so familiar song lyric) that broke my heart.<br />
<br />
Love- such a lonely word.uglykidjoeyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03185841880557811940noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4396286792286051313.post-90862690191742741932011-05-31T21:08:00.001+08:002011-05-31T21:15:50.172+08:00Losing my Blackberry and faith in the police...It was a rainy Saturday, 28th of May 2011, and I was on my way to meet a friend and his nephew to watch Kung Fu Panda 2. I carefully parked my car infront of an "ukay-ukay" near the highway so I can catch a bus that would take me to the mall. I do this every weekend because I hate riding a tricycle going out of the subdivision where I live. It was supposed to be like any other weekend, but the events of the next 30 minutes changed my life forever.<br />
<br />
As I was crossing the street on my way to the covered walk-way beside the local 7-11, I got myself stuck standing in the middle of the rather busy street. There were lots of cars going to and fro and I decided to stay in the middle until the road clears of traffic. Beside me was a woman with some kids in tow. The traffic behind me went to a standstill as a few more people crossed the street. After almost a minute, I went on my way to the bus station. But before I can even reach the pedestrian overpass, I decided to text my friend to say that I am on my way to the mall. As I was reaching for my bag, I noticed that the back pocket was open. I didn't pay much attention to it at first and thought that I just left my phones at the car. So I went back and noticed that it was not there! Then it dawned to me... I lost my phone to a pick pocket!<br />
<br />
I immediately drove my way to the nearby police station and was greeted by two police men who were lazily seated in their rather rather cozy, cold office. I told them that I lost my phones to (a) pickpocket(s) just a few meters away from the police station. A lanky police man said, "wow, ikaw na ang pangalawa ah ngayon!" (translation: " you were the second victim in the past hour!") Then they told me that there was nothing they can do for me and asked me to report the incident to the central police station over at the city hall.<br />
<br />
So I grabbed my keys and drove myself to the central police station. The police on duty wasn't really helpful either. After reporting my story, all he did was write down my story at this "logbook" and told me that there is nothing much they can do for me. They can't deploy people to work on my complaint because: (1) it was a Saturday and they were operating on skeletal duty and (2) it's beyond their jurisdiction (my jaw dropped at this point). The police officer told me that I should have reported this to the nearest police station where the incident occured which is like located in the ghetto part of the city. Geez. <br />
<br />
Then I said to myself, wow, great! Just like the movies. <br />
<br />
After pleading for minutes, they said that I can just go back on Monday to get the police report. I told the officer that I would rather get it now than go back on Monday. What he told me almost broke my heart:<br />
<br />
"Iho, walang opisina ngayon, Usually bente pesos lang itong report pero since ipriprint pa namin ito sa loob, isang daan ito!" (translation: "Sorry son, its a Saturday and no one will print this report. However, I can have this printed for you for 100 Pesos. If you come back on Monday, it will just be 20 bucks")<br />
<br />
Another wow moment. Corruption right before my eyes. I just said yes because it would be fruitless arguing to a greedy policeman. I left the police station with my police report, a broken spirit and a soul that resigned to the feeling that I was robbed twice in the span of 30 minutes: first by an unscrupulous individual who took my Blackberry and Nokia phone, and lastly by a police officer who took advantage of my helpless situation for a quick buck. <br />
<br />
I was a victim til the end.uglykidjoeyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03185841880557811940noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4396286792286051313.post-50552885012184994622011-02-14T20:51:00.011+08:002011-02-14T21:29:36.437+08:00The 53rd Grammy Awards Nominees and Winners<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjordi0n2_x37Kte-8sZLAU7ShROj4KDLNReyJWcwjDxRu5cAjD-3eqY5LFJ3zwTWiDgOSwQpUSjsh9KGCzBAEMrFi3y0oCCeWpogIPD4bM-qDxnLoZyiLLzwBUKG2ZvJTcAfB8NNkl17Iu/s1600/grammy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; cssfloat: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" h5="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjordi0n2_x37Kte-8sZLAU7ShROj4KDLNReyJWcwjDxRu5cAjD-3eqY5LFJ3zwTWiDgOSwQpUSjsh9KGCzBAEMrFi3y0oCCeWpogIPD4bM-qDxnLoZyiLLzwBUKG2ZvJTcAfB8NNkl17Iu/s1600/grammy.jpg" /></a>This year's Grammy Awards is one of upsets, red carpet drama and Gaga. Yes, Gaga. Lady Gaga stole the show with her prostetic horns and uber grand entrance. In true Gaga style, she entered the Staples Center encased inside a huge egg, carried by three scantily dressed men in a procession lead by what seems to be an alien princess. She was one of the night's top winners taking home the Grammy for Pop Vocal Album, Pop Female Vocal Performance and for Short Form Music Video of the Year. Quite an impressive haul I must say. </div></div></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />

The human race is getting ready for Z-Day! (Well, not exactly.) After watching a number of zombie movies (special mention goes to George A. Romero's 1968 masterpiece "Night of the Living Dead") and the Fox series "The Walking Dead", I'm convinced that the world should prepare for Z-Day.</div><div style="border: medium none;"><br />
</div>A Zombie is a reanimated human corpse who feed on human flesh, often specifically, the brain. Sounds scary, right? Just like vampires, they could just very well be working underground waiting for the perfect time to come out and take over the world. So, for now, what can we do to prepare? With that in mind, I have come up with a list of things to do to survive a zombie attack.<br />
<br />
<div style="border: medium none;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhX_S-S4XgPlShE1GQy_37435DqakU58b3BTiBR0JEAYx5tvvzKpXqc0RlSz3wwTJ7nKwRX2vjhy53b_v1uOHPCC2C_-XI273zoNmGaopyR2y8Ho1u9dn_W-qLlG2OMY8agL8fcZd_cdjp1/s1600/zombie1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" s5="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhX_S-S4XgPlShE1GQy_37435DqakU58b3BTiBR0JEAYx5tvvzKpXqc0RlSz3wwTJ7nKwRX2vjhy53b_v1uOHPCC2C_-XI273zoNmGaopyR2y8Ho1u9dn_W-qLlG2OMY8agL8fcZd_cdjp1/s1600/zombie1.jpg" /></a>Should you wake up one day, and find yourself surrounded by brain-hungry zombies, the first thing you should do is to find yourself a pretty comfy place to stay. The shopping mall is a pretty popular choice. Do take note that zombies love the city for they know that there would be lots of people to eat out there. However should you decide not to venture outdoors, lock yourself up at home, but please avoid windows.<br />
<br />
Arm your self up. Preferred weapons include baseball bats, high-powered guns (stock up on bullets), axes and chainsaws. Never use your hands in battle. You can get bitten by 'em evil scums. Once you get bitten, you would never have the chance to use this list ever. </div><br />
<div style="border: medium none;">Should you find yourself in the presence of a zombie, you have two options: you can either hit them on the head (but please, don't miss!) or if you are unarmed, just run away like a madman. Important reminder though, always be sure to wear comfy footwear. Leather shoes are a no-no. And if you are unprepared for battle, just run away. There are conflicting reports on whether zombies can run or not. But to be sure, run away as fast as you can. I'm not sure if you can outrun a zombie. So choose your battles wisely.</div><div style="border: medium none;"><br />
</div>Heroes became heroes for a reason. But for a zombie invasion, choose to save yourself first. No one will remember you saving someone from a zombie. Don't be a statistic. <br />
<br />
<div style="border: medium none;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpPzq0RuyPZQe6px1rpkrzd1RCr6y0GJbxUZjNZHw9XifGRYjYFn-qte7GPwhZYaBECJCJ7AUEQdVrnZr5_Jzx6ZmKd7GDzcTrubBm3ZTNMKY5W91pkJLmSZA7WVKJ2JrNQq_Vy4UUWltT/s1600/zombie3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" s5="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpPzq0RuyPZQe6px1rpkrzd1RCr6y0GJbxUZjNZHw9XifGRYjYFn-qte7GPwhZYaBECJCJ7AUEQdVrnZr5_Jzx6ZmKd7GDzcTrubBm3ZTNMKY5W91pkJLmSZA7WVKJ2JrNQq_Vy4UUWltT/s1600/zombie3.jpg" /></a>And finally, if you can't beat them, just join them. Another way to survive a zombie attack is to just act like one. Drench yourself with blood and guts from a corpse and act like a brain-dead looney by walking like a zombie. If don't know how to do a zombie walk, try to remember the time you got very drunk. That would be a good start. Imitate and observe their every move. But of course, be very aware of the weather. Don't go out in the rain. The blood you have so carefully placed in your body would just wash out and make you very vulnerable for an attack. </div><div style="border: medium none;"><br />
</div><div style="border: medium none;">Its better to be prepared than be surprised when Z-Day finally comes. Print this list and post it on your refrigerator door. Stay safe and go beat 'em evil zombies. </div><div style="border: medium none;"><br />
</div><div style="border: medium none;"><br />

And again, the critics say that the roster this year is one of the strongest and most diverse in history. Out of the ten nominated films for Best Picture, I have only seen 2 and I am looking forward in seeing all of them both on the big screen and on DVD. The nominees for Best Picture this year are: "Black Swan", "127 Hours", "True Grit", "The Kids Are All Right", "Inception", "The Social Network", "The Fighter", "Winter's Bone", "Toy Story 3" and "The King's Speech". <br />
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiu6oBwzbA3mHfVi9_98fQPM7XlakjNFFO5VsvOl4514ET2gI7cPZFG-0cwXNKmIXQxUiKJd9TfbHe_ryIp9cBvJzym9gGpJmtlwyFl8gRBcnnYcDv9Mu_9WLTPqekBsY82LGV7PNg2gaN-/s1600/TS3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; cssfloat: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" s5="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiu6oBwzbA3mHfVi9_98fQPM7XlakjNFFO5VsvOl4514ET2gI7cPZFG-0cwXNKmIXQxUiKJd9TfbHe_ryIp9cBvJzym9gGpJmtlwyFl8gRBcnnYcDv9Mu_9WLTPqekBsY82LGV7PNg2gaN-/s1600/TS3.jpg" /></a>Kudos to "Toy Story 3" for making it on the list, it being an animated feature film. It becomes only the second computer animated film in history to be nominated for Best Picture (the first film to achieve this milestone was Disney Pixar's "Up" in 2010). Also, "Toy Story 3" is the only sequel to be nominated for Best Picture without any of its predecessors being nominated. Obviously, this is my personal favorite to win this year.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">I'm also glad that "Inception" got a nod for best film of the year but I was somehow disappointed that Christopher Nolan was snubbed for his great directorial effort. </div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
For the next 3 weeks, I will be watching all the nominated films. And just like any year, I will make my predictions on who will win the major awards before the trophies are handed out later next month. I will be posting my "Oscar ballot" in the next few weeks.<br />
<br />
Unfortunately, not all the nominated movies will be shown locally and after checking the movie listings, the following films are scheduled to be shown in Manila:</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">Feb 09- 127 Hours</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">Feb 23- Black Swan</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">Feb 23- True Grit</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">For the complete list of nominees, go to <a href="http://oscar.go.com/">http://oscar.go.com/</a> </div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">The 83rd Academy Awards will be telecast live all over the world on February 27, 2011 and will be hosted by Anne Hathaway and James Franco.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div>uglykidjoeyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03185841880557811940noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4396286792286051313.post-50702879041760328462011-01-24T16:10:00.002+08:002011-01-27T20:46:46.855+08:00The Story of the Lucky Charm Bracelet..."Now, make three wishes..."<br />
<br />
This was what the Chinese lady told me when I bought a lucky charm bracelet from her stall at the mall. She placed the "Lucky Ram" bracelet (from the year I was born) on a metal bowl, gave it a gentle tap, and uttered chants in an apparent effort to bless it. So there was I, looking at this bowl while making three innocent wishes with a rather skeptical cloud around me. What do I have to lose, right? (besides my money of course). <br />
<br />
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">After the purchase I went on my way to the the department store to buy some personal supplies. To the left of the store entrance was a really busy stall that caught my eye. It was a lottery outlet. Then, a light bulb moment! What if I test this supposedly lucky bracelet by betting in the insta-scratch lottery? Sounds like a plan to me. So I took out my lucky bracelet, wore it on my left wrist and handed out my twenty pesos to the Cashier and got myself a "Bee Lucky Game" ticket. </div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div>To win, I should match any of the two winning numbers with those six numbers I was given to scratch off. So I scratched the ticket and true enought, I got the surpise of my life... I won! I won! (prize amount withheld LOL). Wow, this lucky bracelet does work! I was not out to push my lucky by buying another ticket, so I just got my winnings and drove home with a smirk on my face. Yes, I forgot to buy what I came to the mall for. Oh well, there's next weekend to buy them (and probably another lottery ticket).uglykidjoeyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03185841880557811940noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4396286792286051313.post-64631518388292937152011-01-16T19:00:00.000+08:002011-01-16T19:00:47.476+08:00The New Zodiac World Order. Ophiuchus is the thirteenth constellation that shocked the Astrological world. And yes, there is a new Zodiac world order. Apparently, due to shifts in the earth's rotation and orbit, the sun now moves through 13 constellations, not just 12. What was supposed to be a very trivial astrological development caused a stir in the news, and all the social networking sites. The inclusion of Ophiuchus in the Zodiac raised a lot of eyebrows (including mine). I'm not really sure if this is just an alternative list or if this now really how your Zodiac sign would be determined.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">Now, who is Ophiuchus? Its Greek name means 'serpent-bearer', and it is commonly represented as a man grasping the snake that is represented by the Serpens constellation. Having said this, go check out the new 13 signs of the Zodiac:</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">Aries: Apr 19 - May 14<br />

As I checked out the new list of Zodiacs, it seems that my June 20 birthday now falls on the sign of Taurus. I used be to be a Gemini and I refuse to be a Taurus! All the people I know can affirm that I am a true blooded Gemini! I'm not really sure if I would follow this new Zodiac listing, or if I should be affected by it, but for an astrological junkie like me, this is truly earth-shaking news.</div>uglykidjoeyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03185841880557811940noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4396286792286051313.post-10674462976992507852011-01-16T14:04:00.004+08:002011-01-16T17:55:17.816+08:00MMXI: A New Year Ahead<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">As much as I wanted to update this blog regularly, the reality of life prevents me from doing so. As with keeping all my new year's resolution, I guess it would be a long, uphill battle. But of course, I will do my best to keep this blog relevant.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">2011. New year to start the new decade. Another 365 years to live life, experience new things and challenges to hurdle. On the first week of the year, I was informed of an opportunity at work that could possibly change my life forever. I decided to give it a chance, and now, I am just waiting for news on how things would turn out (*keeping my fingers crossed*). The start of the new year also brought a bit of sadness: news of cancer striking a loved one, and more stories from family and friends relating of personal and financial hardships truly broke my heart. But as they say, life goes on and I hope everyone would all get their happy endings.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJ0YgIGYMtNTk5qW0w48bNDrIgWOBKHHMNYV6VhaNB10Qjm7LsEsa30FnyBg4WT_t7-dlBFukCQk3OWamQd5sf92PugD6zjcKxRlrziwe5GVFGisdYs9k2uzAcatog_7keLIk8UXJPLZFo/s1600/MMXI.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" n4="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJ0YgIGYMtNTk5qW0w48bNDrIgWOBKHHMNYV6VhaNB10Qjm7LsEsa30FnyBg4WT_t7-dlBFukCQk3OWamQd5sf92PugD6zjcKxRlrziwe5GVFGisdYs9k2uzAcatog_7keLIk8UXJPLZFo/s1600/MMXI.jpg" /></a></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">I also listed resolutions this year, but scrapped them all when I started breaking them on the first week of January. So instead of pressuring myself with resolutions, I am now just simply telling myself to do one thing this year: to just keep moving. To keep moving when things get bad or when things don't end up the way I wanted them to be. To keep on moving to discover more about myself and the world. To keep on moving and push myself to even greater heights. So Joey, just keep on moving to whereever life will bring you this year. <br />
<br />
So to all my blog, Twitter and Facebook friends, however our years start (whether it be good or bad), I wish you nothing but the best this 2011. More success and happiness this year. Lets keep on moving!</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />

When I was a young boy, my dad would play his favorite vinyl Christmas albums on all weekends of December leading to Christmas day. The usual suspects: Ray Conniff "A Very Merry Christmas Album", "Pamasko ng mga Bituin" and the "Mabuhay Singers Christmas Album". </div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">Your ears would bleed every weekend listening to these songs over and over. But my dad would just sit by the record player and gently tap the chair to the melody of the Christmas carols. Simple joys when cassette players were the hottest thing in music. But my dad said that the quality of vinyl records were way better than those of cassettes (of which I totally agree).</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.youtube.com/embed/X7nVroAPa-o?feature=player_embedded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">Okay, I'm not that old to actually be part of the era when this Ray Conniff video was made. I'm a child of the 80's and 90's. Its just this video took me back to a time when Christmases were much more simple and meaningful. I used to sing along with my dad on some of these songs; truly priceless memories.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.youtube.com/embed/C7-4GC828rM?feature=player_embedded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div><br />
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">Christmas nostalgia is in the air on this gloomy Sunday. May the spirit of the season haunt you as well, in a good way of course. I've thrown in some Boney M Christmas music as well for your viewing pleasure. I find the video creepy and if you have problems sleeping at night, refrain from viewing this video. Pump up the volume, listen to the song in the background and sing along if you want. Happy Holidays everyone!</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; text-align: left;"><br />
</div>uglykidjoeyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03185841880557811940noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4396286792286051313.post-70544938648761827592010-12-18T21:03:00.002+08:002010-12-18T21:13:04.973+08:00The New Generation Philippine BanknotesIts been a while since our beloved Peso had a makeover, and yes, it sure is a welcome change. The new designs were very well received by the public. The changes were striking and it sure brought the Peso at par with other world currencies in terms of design and security features. The colors were much better as well. I'm not really sure if they would be of the same size (dimensions) with the old bills, but I sure hope that they would be similar to that of the Australian and Hongkong dollar. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_65nDvV1KZ1Q1vVlmXexaudzHVdkheT9jQ9dH5IVuSt5ZX1ZYNv2pDBmm3252VYtxBp3xn9Mb5nJZ6SatNWG8kqdauhU7UXaKh9FRW4hPfLjoqT9XV1QMxjiF_CC1xX0cdAUpz1bsgqG4/s1600/bills1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="221" n4="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_65nDvV1KZ1Q1vVlmXexaudzHVdkheT9jQ9dH5IVuSt5ZX1ZYNv2pDBmm3252VYtxBp3xn9Mb5nJZ6SatNWG8kqdauhU7UXaKh9FRW4hPfLjoqT9XV1QMxjiF_CC1xX0cdAUpz1bsgqG4/s320/bills1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
There were notable changes on the bills. The reverse side of the notes now feature some of our most beautiful tourist spots and unique Philippine fauna. I especially love the tarsier and blue-naped parrot on the 200 and 500 Peso bills. However, there were some geographical errors on the notes. There were some issues in the accuracy of the location of the Puerto Princesa Subterranean Park and of the Tubbataha Reef on the 1000 and 500 Peso bills. Also, Batanes seems to have been cut off from the Philippine map on the reverse side of all the new bills. <br />
<br />
The Bangko Sentral has also decided to let go of some of the more important historical depictions in the new designs. Gone is the Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo oath taking image on the 200 Peso note and images of the EDSA People Power I on the reverse side of the 500 Peso note.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLxbi_JzIlFyLgIo0JxphTy2b3l7yntNcDkXxHa9gtL70PT78WsSR0cfLTzC8wUJ0xmtQKWM5SJFCbgd8n3bbBPXa-x5OwBNKrHU5uJ6wWfGVyzwI3RTVy2n5HW_LlVhIJCy4pk3RowFkv/s1600/bills2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="221" n4="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLxbi_JzIlFyLgIo0JxphTy2b3l7yntNcDkXxHa9gtL70PT78WsSR0cfLTzC8wUJ0xmtQKWM5SJFCbgd8n3bbBPXa-x5OwBNKrHU5uJ6wWfGVyzwI3RTVy2n5HW_LlVhIJCy4pk3RowFkv/s320/bills2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
I am very excited to get my hands on these new bank notes. And yes, I'd also start keeping some of the old notes for posterity. To our Central Bank, just one small wish: please start producing more paper money and less of the coins currently in circulation. Also, please reintroduce the 1, 5 and 10 Peso bills into the market. I'm pretty sure you'd be doing the Filipino nation a big favor. <br />
<br />

<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">I spent most of the weekend decorating our house for Christmas. With so many rooms to decorate, I told my mom that we are limiting the decorations to just two: the living room and the study. But then mom had her way in decorating the kitchen as well. This year, my major holiday project was the Christmas tree. I want a tree that reflected my personality. A tree with balls! Blue balls! LOL. So thats what my family got. A tree dominated by blue ornaments. The official uglykidproject Christmas tree!</div><br />

From Alabang to Makati, I'd be taking pictures of how Christmas is shaping up this season. Time to fill up the gas tank and get the camera ready... I'm going on Christmas road trip!</div>uglykidjoeyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03185841880557811940noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4396286792286051313.post-37624708075593944052010-12-03T09:05:00.000+08:002010-12-03T09:05:37.855+08:00Christmas becomes theuglykidprojectThere is no escaping Christmas! Its (counting with my fingers) 23 days left before one of the most awaited holidays all over the world. The metropolis is now glowing as Christmas lights adorn every tree, house and building facade. The Yuletide spirit is definitely in the air. <br />
<br />
On that note, I'm decking the uglykidproject halls with boughs of Christmas holly (fa la la la la, la la la la). Because this indeed is the season to be jolly (fa la la la la, la la la la). <br />
<br />
Enjoy the festivities! After missing almost 3 weeks worth of Chico and Delle's morning radio show (I was away on Java Training for most of last month), I pretty much made up for it by listening to the podcasts nonstop since Tuesday. True to TMR (The Morning Rush) fashion, the episodes last month were hilarious! I was trying my best not to laugh out loudly. What started as chuckles, led to louder snickers (with matching bobbing shoulders)- then bursting out in laughter in an otherwise deathly silent workplace.</div><br />
In a TMR episode about the <span style="color: red;">"Top Ten Tourism Slogans for the Philippines (a province or a city)"</span>, some entries presented really witty slogans (this was after the "Pilipinas Kay Ganda" brouhaha):<br />
<br />
<span style="color: #660000;">“More Asia, Than Malaysia.”<br />
“Boom Boom Mayon! Bye Bye Albay.” </span><br />
<span style="color: #660000;">“San Juan, Juan-derful!”</span><br />
<span style="color: #660000;">“Pinas, Ganda Mo Teh!”</span><br />
<span style="color: #660000;">“Sa Pandacan, Big Time Ka!” </span><br />
<span style="color: #660000;">“Thanks For Coming, Camiguin!”</span><br />
<span style="color: #660000;">“We Fly High In Capiz!”</span><br />
<span style="color: #660000;">“Tata Tete Titi Toto Tutuban!”</span><br />
<span style="color: #660000;">“Better Leyte Than Never!”</span><br />
<span style="color: #660000;">“Boracay, You Sexy Beach!”</span><br />
<span style="color: #660000;">“El Nido. It’s Everybody’s Milk!”</span><br />
<span style="color: #660000;">“EoW pFouHWz, pHFiLiPPeEnZZ!”</span> (jejejeje)<br />
<br />
And to cap off the list: my favorite entry (which made me laugh out the hardest):<br />
<span style="color: #660000;">“Sa Marinduque, Malalaki Ang Pu…(so).”</span><br />
<br />
This almost made me faint! I thought Chico was going to blurt out "Pu**" (hahaha). And thanks to Delle, an alternative filler was given: "Pu**y" (the English equivalent of pu**) which she said on air! (I want to believe this was an honest slip-up) hehehe. OMG, this made may day. I had to run out of the office to laugh in an empty hallway.<br />
<br />
For a complete list of all the entries for this episode, visit Chico Garcia's blog (Strange Fruit): <a href="http://chicogarcia.wordpress.com/2010/12/01/the-top-ten-tourism-slogans-for-the-philippines-or-a-province-or-a-city/"><span style="color: red;">http://chicogarcia.wordpress.com/2010/12/01/the-top-ten-tourism-slogans-for-the-philippines-or-a-province-or-a-city/</span></a>. This is a truly great blog with lots of really interesting stories and amazing photographs taken by Chico himself.<br />

I want to think Chico and Delamar's morning radio show (which airs 6AM-10AM daily over at RX 93.1) is what keeps me sane in the workplace. But after today's incident, I'm willing to reconsider. LOL.uglykidjoeyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03185841880557811940noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4396286792286051313.post-48482283578003571282010-11-18T21:16:00.016+08:002010-11-26T21:06:03.947+08:00The Pilipinas Kay Ganda Brouhaha<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; text-align: justify;">The first time I heard about the new Philippine toursim slogan was on a radio show where the hosts were openly criticizing the new tourism campaign. They were referring to the "Pilipinas Kay Ganda" slogan which replaced the old "Wow Philippines" catch phrase. Okay, in the Filipino language it sounds serene, precise and enticing. But I am a Filipino and I perfectly understand what it means. If I were, say an American, who doesn't have the slightest clue on where, or what the heck "Pilipinas" is (and I bet most foreigners won't even know where the Philippines is in the map), this slogan sounds so misguided and wrong in almost every aspect of an effective marketing campaign (unless the Department of Tourism is aiming on boosting local tourism or targeting balikbayans). Its like taking a step back on where the "Wow Philippines" campaign has taken us these past few years. </div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: justify;"></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; text-align: justify;">I gave this issue a break for a few days thinking that it would just go away. But no! It gets worse. To add insult to injury, there is a rather serious accusation that the "Pilipinas Kay Ganda" logo was based (in more blunt terms "blatantly copied" a.k.a. plagiarized) from Poland's tourism campaign logo. What a joke. What were they thinking? And they expect to get away with it? Someone in the Department of Tourism must explain and take responsibility for this sham! Do check on the logo comparison and judge it yourself. So I say, off with their heads! What would they think of next? "Philippines, Truly more Asia"? </div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; text-align: left;"></div>uglykidjoeyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03185841880557811940noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4396286792286051313.post-70617817601680604772010-11-14T19:06:00.009+08:002010-11-14T20:08:36.251+08:00<div style="text-align: justify;"></div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBG4agcUX4-8L-pe6F2GgkB7VfUpex54kiLLB3LxFpZIv8B3iqXAxZJo4Su0mIAfBclUY6dQS5MBJuSi6XHhcqweltGJkYgS-0BDqsvWHWA9E5frPla3CkQQWTCmdvfZM01L_puEcULYNC/s1600/pacman.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" px="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBG4agcUX4-8L-pe6F2GgkB7VfUpex54kiLLB3LxFpZIv8B3iqXAxZJo4Su0mIAfBclUY6dQS5MBJuSi6XHhcqweltGJkYgS-0BDqsvWHWA9E5frPla3CkQQWTCmdvfZM01L_puEcULYNC/s320/pacman.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: justify;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAPBD5umy2KeYWgUbWpRsZY9PV7lCFL6zvyUyJexy1_NPTHXkQLOUkYCeOGxjsKJyLF2S7B6Gr_I7QGmcrlWcSQ2j0jsOfVkhDRh2r7AFZuEY6EgWlHfuMbTepCNN2oCSmSmN-zl0Di_Jc/s1600/great.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="22" px="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAPBD5umy2KeYWgUbWpRsZY9PV7lCFL6zvyUyJexy1_NPTHXkQLOUkYCeOGxjsKJyLF2S7B6Gr_I7QGmcrlWcSQ2j0jsOfVkhDRh2r7AFZuEY6EgWlHfuMbTepCNN2oCSmSmN-zl0Di_Jc/s400/great.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; text-align: justify;">An eight-division world champion, the first boxer in history to win ten world titles in eight different weight divisions. I'm catching up with my emails, and my other cyber what-have-yous.<br />
<br />
Anyway, I'm spending the next few hours trying to secure myself some sweet airline deals. I'm planning to go to Davao for a day then spend the rest of my 3 day vacation in Cebu and Bohol (the second time this year). I don't know. I have this compulsion to travel this month. Maybe I'm going overboard with my bucketlist. And to prove this point, I already bought myself a new travelling bag for my still unrealized and overplanned Davao vacation. <br />
<br />
On the way home tonight, I noticed the newly set-up Christmas decorations along Paseo de Roxas and Ayala Avenue. I would be taking pictures next week and would be posting them here soon. <br />
<br />
Christmas is just around the corner and there is just no escaping it.uglykidjoeyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03185841880557811940noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4396286792286051313.post-55237144745498736332010-11-09T21:28:00.002+08:002010-11-09T21:39:41.837+08:00<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

We only have one shot at this, then its gone. Two lazy Sundays ago, I was able to read this interesting article on the Sunday Inquirer Magazine which talks about famous people's bucket lists. Some were far out impossible, while a lot of them were at the least, noble and interesting. For starters, what the heck is a "bucket list"? As urbandictionary.com describes it: "...a list of things to do before you die; comes from the term "kicked the bucket"</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvhG4_tVe77ESSk-9xruCXUQA853QfXWxJ1kcXoHQqomGSNJwrnNMnOOwEzVojK-tHYUcmvejNNhmKmP2If9P8y0PdLWudnVnYctKAwVzs2AE386cCa3-LStxVPKMTN2s8J2QXV_NM4Kp_/s1600/bucket.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; cssfloat: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" px="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvhG4_tVe77ESSk-9xruCXUQA853QfXWxJ1kcXoHQqomGSNJwrnNMnOOwEzVojK-tHYUcmvejNNhmKmP2If9P8y0PdLWudnVnYctKAwVzs2AE386cCa3-LStxVPKMTN2s8J2QXV_NM4Kp_/s1600/bucket.jpg" /></a>This made me stop and think: I better make myself one! I rushed on to get my pencil and tickler and made quite a long list of things to do. But then, I said to myself, is this truly worth my time and energy? Would these items on my list be at least achievable in my lifetime? I looked at it again and an entry said: "Go bungee jumping". Well, great! My injured spine would love to get that one final deathly jolt. But then, some were quite achievable (and more of a mind over matter thing) like "Eat vegetables" and "Kick away the junk food habit", while others I have already started: "Set foot in all three major island groups in the Philippines". Great! At least I have something to look forward to. On how soon I will complete it, is an entirely different story. </div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">I think my list still needs a little refining. I would definitely post it soon and hope that it would inspire everyone to make their own list. Check on my partial list below:</div><ul><li style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">Set foot in all continents (excluding Antartica)</li>
<li style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">Save my first million by age 35</li>
<li>Watch the "The David Letterman Show" live </li>
<li>Run my first marathon</li>
<li>Learn a third language </li>
<li>Build my own resthouse </li>
<li>Meet Chico and Delamar </li>
<li>Do volunteer work</li>
<li>Get washboard abs</li>
<li>Take a commercial A380 flight to anywhere</li>
</ul><div style="text-align: justify;">I hope I get to achieve these items on my list before death beats me into it.</div>uglykidjoeyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03185841880557811940noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4396286792286051313.post-65438130919022160842010-11-08T11:26:00.018+08:002010-11-09T19:27:13.060+08:00<div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7A1oeLB62Z2mjqSK_S1zhLDx3u8WbuxZnqP7QGMxx1QecXWPH6-HhSpz94nO5WKG89GJEOr0tKFQqjd7YuQv3AltBhLIZSat00-pq_G8TMEh0RoVSbcSuufTi5tXtKHkfIRVRmxQFU_T1/s1600/uglytrav.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="22" px="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7A1oeLB62Z2mjqSK_S1zhLDx3u8WbuxZnqP7QGMxx1QecXWPH6-HhSpz94nO5WKG89GJEOr0tKFQqjd7YuQv3AltBhLIZSat00-pq_G8TMEh0RoVSbcSuufTi5tXtKHkfIRVRmxQFU_T1/s400/uglytrav.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;"></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">I'm falling into the trap of being an idle kid being caught up with too much work and very little play as experienced these past few years. What used to be very regular vacations became few and far between. The Easter holidays were usually reserved for my annual Dubai escapade and my birthdays were usually spent in the urban jungle of Hongkong. But then, this uglykid took a hiatus from the good life and spent more time at work. It was a good idea during that time and true enough, I finally got the promotion I was working hard for. But this year, a lot has changed and I realized that I must strike a balance between life and work.</div></div></div><br />

But this time, I had my eyes set on local destinations. My resolution was to set foot on all three major division of the country in a year's time before the year ends. And oh, what makes this interesting is that I would need to "backpack" by myself to my chosen destinations.</div></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">I started March this year when I went to Laiya, Batangas (where I slept on a tent which was not a very pleasant experience). While the beach was very inviting, I came at a very hectic time of the year. My early morning walk on the beach was a very good opportunity to check the environs and the nearby resorts. The beautiful mountains meet the beach in a very relaxed setting. Then a little short of noon, I had the chance to snorkel (err, I stayed on the boat)... okay "attempted" to snorkel but my view on the boat was good enough for my already delighted eyes. The water was quite deep and rather cold. Nevertheless, I promised myself that I'd do it next time I visit any snorkling-worthy beach.</div></div></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3GFhh4vMrVcQX8Pr-6m7tUqTU0xBJGUgo-kfA5yQd1Nd6CANegR96UDezRTl-oPkXzQHAW_p_n-FfQ9vheX0NK5srwmVYhx1k_0Fx_9mbnBCiNsV9CHvDvYn1lQcBvxoVxjNYDg5iVD6s/s1600/cebu.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; cssfloat: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" px="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3GFhh4vMrVcQX8Pr-6m7tUqTU0xBJGUgo-kfA5yQd1Nd6CANegR96UDezRTl-oPkXzQHAW_p_n-FfQ9vheX0NK5srwmVYhx1k_0Fx_9mbnBCiNsV9CHvDvYn1lQcBvxoVxjNYDg5iVD6s/s1600/cebu.jpg" /></a>Then last May, I decided to take the Visayan leg of my tour to visit the historic island of Cebu. It was three extrordinary days of food tripping, shopping, long walks and meeting new friends. I stayed in a rather "humble" hotel with the most basic of amenities (worthy to call this a backpack adventure). I visited the tourist staples: Magellan's Cross, the Basilica of Sto. Nino, Fort San Pedro, and the handful of modern malls in the city of Cebu. But I missed visiting the Lapu-Lapu Monument due to time constraints. I loved the food, the people and the sights of this island. Not to mention that there is not a single airconditioned bus in this city. I rode the local jeepneys and braved the heat and pollution. Fun! Fun! Fun!</div></div></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />

This was a late celebration of my birthday. This was another Visayan destination and was my very first visit to the island. This is truly paradise on Earth. The place caters to every imaginable kind of tourist. The nightlife was quite interesting (in a good way) and my walks on the beach was a different experience everytime I set foot on its powder-fine sands. I went island hopping and finally took some time to snorkel. I loved it! I was taken away on a private island where I had lunch and went spelunking (yes, there was a hidden cave on the island). Amazing three days indeed. I will definitely return to Bora next year.</div></div></div></div></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">Then came in some unexpected news from work that derailed my planned Davao vacation. I was sent to Dhaka for a seven day onsite-client visit. That's a different story altogether (my Bangladesh story to come out soon) and I must say it was a very humbling experience.</div></div></div></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">For now, I'm trying to squeeze in a three-day Davao vacation in the next few weeks. I hope it finally materializes. The uglykid travel project is very much back.<br />
